Here’s Looking at You, Kid!

Posted in General, Uncategorized with tags , , on January 25, 2012 by Tanya Mercado

Everyone is well aware of the situation regarding Gary Carter. It is not looking good for the Kid who gave this city and their fans something to be proud of. Prayers, words of encouragement and well wishes are being sent his way everyday on the Team Carter page on Facebook.

One Mets fan, Gonzalo Fidalgo has written something for Carter and has decided to share it with Mets fans through CitiField of Dreams. Enjoy. Share your Gary Carter stories in the comments section below.

Here’s looking at you, Kid

All eyes on you Kid,
as you wait on deck.
You never ran from a challenge,
so it’s time to put this cancer in check.
Beat this like you beat the sox in game six,
when we had last licks.
You beat this twice,
there’s nothing you can’t fix.

Two outs in the 9th,
your hit gave us life.
But this ones for you,
your children and your wife.

We watched you play at Shea,
when you were an Expo.
Then with our boys in orange & Blue
saying, “lets Go Mets Go”.
You always played by the books,
and the league thought we were crooks,
when we got you from Montreal for
Youmans, Fitzgerald, Herm and Brooks.

In my heart I know you should not be catching colds,
you should be catching Doc,
just once more.
And you should be cleaning up,
between Mex and Straw.

My eyes still see you,
hustling around the bases
and squatting behind home plate.
Hit one last opening day Homer for us Kid,
Cause Heaven can wait.

Thank you Gonzalo for sharing that. I’m sure many Mets fans can relate to it and wish for the same thing. Great job!

To Gary Carter, you played for a team that never believed in giving up, but always believed. You are not alone in this. We are all here for you. You fought to give us a championship. Now we are here to share with you our strength to keep fighting. Our prayers are with you and your family. We wish you well. With love, Mets fans everywhere.

T’was The Night Before Mets-mas

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on December 24, 2010 by Tanya Mercado
A special Christmas treat for all of the Mets fans out there. This was written by CFoD reader, Donna Bauer. Very creative and very fun! It actually got me excited for 2011. LET’S GO METS! MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!
N.Y. METS CHRISTMAS

T’WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND ALL THROUGH THE CLUBHOUSE

NOT A CREATURE WAS STIRRING – NOT EVEN OLLIE THE LOUSE

THE STOCKINGS WERE HUNG BY THE DUGOUT WITH CARE

IN HOPES THAT OUR GM SOON WOULD BE THERE

THE METS WERE NESTLED ALL SNUGG IN THEIR BEDS

WHILE VISIONS OF THE PHILS LOSING DANCED IN THEIR HEADS

AND THE MANAGER IN HIS PJ’S AND METS BASEBALL CAP

HAD JUST SETTLED DOWN FOR A SHORT WINTERS NAP

WHEN OUT ON THE DIAMOND THERE AROSE SUCH A CLATTER

HE SPRANG FROM THE BENCH TO SEE WHAT WAS THE MATTER

UP THE FIRST BASELINE HE FLEW IN A FLASH

TORE AROUND SECOND, TO 3RD IN A DASH

THEN ON TO HOME PLATE HE SURELY DID GO

AND WONDERED WHAT HE WAS DOING OUT THERE IN THE SNOW

WHEN WHAT TO HIS DISBELIEVING EYES SHOULD APPEAR

BUT A GORGEOUS D WRIGHTAND 8 OTHER METS DEAR

WITH A GREAT FRIENDLY SMILE SO LIVELY AND QUICK

HE THOUGHT FOR A MOMENT THIS MUST BE A TRICK

MORE RAPID THAN PHILLIES HIS METS SURELY CAME

WHEN HE WHISTLED AND SHOUTED AND CALLED THEM BY NAME

“NOW J BAY, NOW CARLOS, NOW JOSE, NOW PAGAN

ON R.A., ON DAVIS, ON THOLE, ON JOHAN

TO THE TIP OF THE WARNING TRACK, TO THE TOP OF THE WALL

GO HIT MONSTER HOME RUNS OVER IT ALL”

THEY SPOKE NOT A WORD BUT WENT STRAIGHT TO WORK

AND HIT TONS OF HOMERS, THEY CAN, ITS THEIR QUIRK

AND PICKING A BAT UP HE JUMPED TO HIS TOES

THEN IKE HIT A MONSTER – IT GOES AND IT GOES

HE RAN BACK TO THE BENCH, TO HIS TEAM GAVE A WHISTLE

AND AWAY THEY ALL RAN REAL SHARP AND NOT FICKLE

AND I HEARD THEM EXCLAIM AS THEY DROVE OUT OF SIGHT

WORLD SERIES WILL BE OURS AND TO THE PHILLIES GOOD NIGHT!!!!

Interest In Feliciano Hurts Mets

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on November 30, 2010 by Tanya Mercado

Pedro Feliciano has declined the Mets arbitration offer in favor of a multi-year deal he wants. He stood to make $4 million in a one year offer.

What makes this bad news for the Mets, other than the fact it would cripple the bullpen should he not return, is that other teams have expressed interest. Other teams who have cash to burn. Reports are the Yankees are among those teams, which could also include the Philadelphia Phillies and Anaheim Angels. All of this extra interest will undoubtedly raise the price tag on him to where the Mets will not even be able to negotiate.

While others were worried about him burning up what little money the Mets have to spend this offseason, I had hoped he would take the deal. However, this does not mean the Mets cannot negotiate with him. They still can. Hopefully, they can work things out. Maybe work out a three year deal that will not financially cripple the team.

Either way, Feliciano is one man this team cannot give up on. I love how they still have yet to decide what to do about Oliver Perez, yet they drag their feet on someone who has put the bullpen on his back. At last I checked, you reward people for their hard work. Not slap them in the face.

Another Lost Season

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on October 1, 2010 by zieleappeal

Today I find myself thinking sadly about the fast approaching end of the 2010 season. (No baseball to watch makes me sad.) I have been thinking about the last few weeks that have had Mets fans agreeing that change must take place, but disagreeing about what that changes should look like.

So, I sit here in weird anticipation of Oct 4th….the day after the end of the season.

I will be at the last three games of the season as I have done for the last ten years. 1999 was the first year that I had done that. So I have been through the last week of seasons that were fun and heartwarming while others have down right SUCKED.

I have watched Bobby V, Art Howe, Willie Randolph and now Jerry Manual as each was in the last days of what was originally a promising career. Instead, for them , it turned out to be a walk into the abyss. A walk that was most times not solely because of their own actions.

Bobby V had Steve Phillips, a disaster that Bobby could never overcome. Art Howe had… well …Art Howe. Nice guy and all but he was compared to a character from “Weekend at Bernies” and I am sure you know which one. Then there was Willie…an ex yankee- which in this town gave him a major disadvantage right from the start. But he surprised us as he ALMOST lead us into the promised land. (Thanks Carlos).

Now we have Jerry. And he has had constant adversity to contend with…ie..injuries, Minaya, Wilpons, etc.
Change is needed again. The bottom line is that they (The NY Mets) have the ABILITY to get the talent and the ABILITY to manage the talent.

SO what the hell are they doing wrong? As with any company it all starts at the TOP. All of the responsibility begins at the TOP.

So here it is, almost October 4th and we as Mets Fans look to the TOP. We need some MAJOR IMPACTFUL CHANGES.
CHANGES that will lead to MAJOR IMPACTFUL METS BASEBALL. We have the ABILITY, so show us that you care. Make those changes and make them MAJOR. Those at the TOP owe it to us Mets Fans.

Eyes Tell The Truth

Yes Mets fans. Your eyes are not deceiving you the Mets are now in a a three-way tie for second place. The Mets won last night, even if it was shortened by rain. We will take the win.

The biggest benefit of the rain shortened 6-inning game is that the bullpen now gets a well-deserved rest. Plus, the team gets the boost that they have their first sweep of the season. That can do a lot for the confidence of the team.

Now the boys face the LA Dodgers who are the cellar dwellers of their division. The Mets need to continue to take full advantage

Yanks Gonna Ring Their Bell

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on October 28, 2009 by Tanya Mercado

Well the nightmare is officially here. Yankees and Phillies in the 2009 World Series.

All I have to say is “DING DONG”! The Yankees are going to ring the Liberty bell so loud forget the crack. That thing will shatter.

The Phillies seem to think they are the hottest thing since sliced bread. Well guess what. You will always be the second class citizens to New York’s dominance in all things sports related.

New York stops and cheers as it watches one of their teams do battle. Lady Liberty is ready to set the Phillies on fire with her mighty torch.

The Phillies seem to think they have this one in the bag. Jimmy Rollins said that if he’s feeling gracious, the Phillies will take it in five games.

Dream on! It is not going to happen. While you have been here only once, the Yankees have been there six times since 1996. Where were you? A never was!

You think you can really take on veterans Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettite, and Mariano Rivera? Good luck with that.

No way can you handle the hitting power of Alex Rodriguez and the rest of Murderer’s Row.

CC Sabathia and company will shut you down. Yanks will take Game one and roll from there.

As most Mets fans remain divided as to who to cheer for, this World Series is starting, whether they like it or not.

So get ready New York! The Yankees are going for Championship Number 27.

Let’s Go Yankees!

Now I’m going to go throw up.

New Hispanic Night Date

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on September 15, 2009 by Tanya Mercado

As many of you probably remember earlier this year I made a big stink over the fact the Mets did away with Hispanic Heritage Night. I was criticized for my opinion and for my displeasure with the organization over it. Would you believe I am still getting a lot of hits on that blog?

Well I am now  here to say the Mets have brought it back, in case you have not heard already. Just in time to say goodbye to the season too.

It is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22nd at 7:10pm against the Atlanta Braves. It is being sponsored by every Puerto Ricans favorite company, GOYA. God bless Goya!

I am actually surprised they did it for a Tuesday. Usually these are scheduled on a Friday night. It has been for the past few years.

So there you are. Go and enjoy! Have some fun for me. I will probably be working that night. It figures! The one time it is not on a Friday night, I still cannot go because I have to work.

Mets Miss Out On Lugo

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on July 22, 2009 by Tanya Mercado

Let the rumors rest. The Mets will not be getting the services of Julio Lugo. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has reported that Lugo has been sent to the Cardinals in exchange for Chris Duncan.

I know one Boston Red Sox fan that is very happy Lugo is no longer a part of the team. He was not exactly a great contributor to the Sox. They all wanted him out. The Sox will still be paying for his $13.5 million that is owed to him.

Lugo has 16 errors under his belt this year along and was not exactly a big bat hitting only at .268. He suffered a torn quadriceps muscle.

The Cards must have been desperate to be rid of Duncan to make this move. I fail to see this as a move that would benefit either team, especially the Sox since they still have to pay Lugo. Duncan is still recovering from a back surgery he had during the offseason. He is only hitting .227.

Good luck to both teams on this one.
